Hearing to Focus on Proposed Leaf Blower Ban
- Share via
A public hearing on a proposed ban on leaf blowers will be held tonight during the City Council meeting.
Opponents of leaf blowers say the machines are noisy and dirty. They recommend the use of “environmentally sensitive” alternatives such as rakes or brooms, which gardeners say are less effective and more time-consuming.
About 20 California cities have adopted bans on certain types of leaf blowers, including Hermosa Beach and Santa Monica, which prohibit gasoline-powered blowers but permit electric models.
Under Manhattan Beach’s current noise regulations, leaf blowers may be used during restricted hours.
The council meets at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall, 1400 Highland Ave.
