Russia’s Economy
Once again Robert Scheer demonstrates his economic illiteracy and lifelong penchant for state socialism in his column about Russia’s current economic and political chaos (Sept. 1).
The trouble in the old Soviet Union isn’t unbridled capitalism imported with the assistance of U.S. free market advocates. The problem certainly isn’t low tax rates that need to be raised. The trouble is a tax system riddled with corruption and the failure to collect taxes from a black market economy. And it stems from the absence of a rule of law--something we have in this country that ‘60s liberals like Scheer have long degraded and mocked.
