College Honors 6 for Contributions

Ventura College has inducted six people into its Mary Guthrie Hall of Achievement, with a ceremony scheduled for Sept. 25 to honor the group for their contributions to the college and community.

This year’s inductees include Helen Yunker, Yvonne Gallegos Bodle, Jerry Dunlap, Joyce Kennedy and Jerry and Linda Mendelsohn.

Yunker serves on the executive committee and board of the Ventura College Foundation, where she is chairwoman of the fund drive to equip the college’s new science complex.

A graduate of Ventura College, Bodle has been a business instructor at the college since 1965.

Dunlap is a physical education instructor and special projects director at Ventura College, where he has been a faculty member since 1967. He has served as the college’s athletic director and football and wrestling coach.

Kennedy is the retired director of the Ventura campus of Cal State University Northridge.

The Mendelsohns own Custom Awards and Engraving and are longtime sponsors of the college’s basketball program. Linda Mendelsohn is a 1980 graduate of Ventura College.

The fourth annual “Celebration of Achievement” will be held Sept. 25 at the Poinsettia Pavilion in Ventura. The event, which begins at 6 p.m., is hosted by the Alumni and Friends of the Ventura College Assn.
