An Oxnard man was arrested on suspicion of breaking into the home of a 66-year-old Camarillo woman over the weekend and threatening her with a knife, authorities said.

Kenneth Young, 19, was booked into Ventura County Jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, burglary and theft, authorities said.

The break-in occurred about 1:15 a.m. Sunday in the 1100 block of E. Ventura Blvd. when a man entered a bedroom where the woman was sleeping, sheriff’s officials said.

The woman heard yelling and awoke. When she turned on the light, authorities said, she saw a man standing in the doorway with a knife. After a brief struggle, she was able to get away from the intruder.

The woman, whose identity is being withheld by officials, ran to another room, shut the door and called 911, authorities said. The intruder fled.

Sheriff’s Deputy Ryan Clark arrived at the woman’s house, where he saw a man matching the description the woman had given. The man rode away on a bicycle. Sheriff’s Deputy Veronica Long apprehended him after an extensive struggle, authorities said.

Officials said the woman identified Young as the man who had broken into her house. Deputies arrested Young and questioned him at the sheriff’s station in Camarillo, before taking him to Pleasant Valley Hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries.
