A Room and a View: She Won’t Stay at Westin

Share

I noted with interest the Air New Zealand ad [Ad Reviews, Sept. 17] with the tag line, “What was she on?”

Recently, an ad similar in nature appeared in Money magazine--similar, that is, in being insulting to women. Its tag line--”Who is she sleeping with?”--sets us back 50 years. The least annoying part of the tag line is the grammatical error.

What could [Westin] have been thinking when [it] launched this ad campaign?

As a businesswoman who spends weeks at a time on the road, I can only respond to Westin that I would sleep in the back seat of my rental car before I would set foot into the lobby of a Westin hotel.

The text of the Westin ad reads in part, “She got a laser printer by her window. Got a fax machine on her desk. Got breakfast in bed. Who is she sleeping with?”
