Driver Killed as Car Plunges Off Freeway

A driver was killed Tuesday morning, apparently when his truck went over the side of the westbound Garden Grove Freeway at Euclid Street and plunged 60 feet to the ground, authorities said.

Chad Perry, 19, was not wearing a seat belt when rescue crews pulled him from his 1997 GMC Sonoma, but the air bag had deployed, California Highway Patrol Officer Denise Medina said. He was taken to Garden Grove Medical Center and pronounced dead.

His truck went over the side of the freeway on the Euclid Street exit ramp, Medina said. Authorities are investigating whether Perry died behind the wheel before the crash or was killed on impact, she said.
