Ventura Skater to Compete in World Meet

* Bo Brucker of Ventura won a silver medal at the United States Roller Skating Championships in Fresno, earning him a spot on the U.S. Junior World Team. Brucker, 18, a graduate of Buena High School, earned the medal in men’s singles competition. He will compete at the 1998 World Roller Skating Championships in Bogota, Colombia Nov. 3-15. Brucker has decided to postpone his first semester at Ventura College so he can train for the world meet.

Businesses Honored for Anti-Pollution Efforts

* In celebration of National Pollution Prevention Week, the Thousand Oaks City Council recognized area businesses for their efforts in reducing waste, recycling and supporting the city’s Commercial Recycling Program. Those honored are Baxter Healthcare Corp. and GAR Energy Management Group for “Pollution Prevention;” Conejo Graphics for “Recycling;” Kinko’s Copies and Whole Foods Market Store for “Waste Reduction/Reuse;” Newbury Disposal Co. for “Buying Recycled.”
