New Mexico Milks Ranch Life

A 47-acre New Mexico Farm & Ranch Heritage Museum has opened in Las Cruces, about an hour north of El Paso, Texas, with a working farm and ranch, livestock, history and art exhibits, theater, amphitheater, restaurant and even a farmers market with fresh produce.
Visitors can take a gander at longhorn cattle, churro sheep and burros; watch a blacksmith demonstrate his skills; see cows being milked; and experience other rural activities. An exhibit called “Tools and Traditions,” drawn from more than 4,000 objects donated to the $7.5-million museum, features horse-drawn implements, a 1937 tractor and a Native American dwelling. “Ranchwomen of New Mexico,” through Oct. 14, presents photographs of Navajo, The museum is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday.
