Fund-Raiser Planned for Housing Effort

Women’s Build, a division of Habitat for Humanity, is planning an Oct. 4 fund-raiser at the historic Piru Mansion to raise money for a house it is building there.
“It’s very exciting to get women involved in building,” said Betsy Quinn, a spokeswoman for Women’s Build. “It’s very empowering.”
The house is one of 22 planned by Habitat for a site once owned by David C. Cook--the man who also once owned the historic home where the fund-raiser will be held.
“It’s kind of an amazing circle that we’ve gotten back to the land that he built,” Quinn said.
Items to be offered at a silent auction include: a week in a Colorado condominium, a day at a spa and an hour with an interior designer.
The group has raised $25,000 of the $70,000 it needs for the house it is planning. Ten percent of the money raised will go to Habitat’s international program.
Tickets are $35 per person. For more information, call 482-7870.
