The City Council last week scrapped plans for directional signs in the Balboa Peninsula business district after the majority turned thumbs-down on the modified standing pole signs. Council members said the traditional green-and-white Caltrans signs that direct visitors to parking areas and attractions will do fine, but directed staff to replace faded signs and asked the Public Works Department to create a guide sign program that is less fancy and more to the point.
The council did, however, approve two large monument signs for the entrance to the peninsula and one for the entrance to Balboa Village.
