A bucket of chemical resin left in an oven caused an explosion and fire in an Anaheim factory Saturday morning, fire authorities said.

A worker from Friday’s shift at Pacific Transformer Corp. in the 5300 block of East Hunter Avenue apparently left the bucket in the oven overnight, said Robyn Butler, a spokeswoman for the Anaheim Fire Department.

Employees who turned the oven on Saturday about 10:30 a.m. saw it explode, blowing the oven door 50 feet across the room.

“They fired up and after a while, kaboom, a huge explosion,” said Butler.

The door narrowly missed one of the workers, but none of the 12 employees present were hurt, Butler said.

Firefighters took 15 minutes to extinguish the blaze, which caused an unspecified amount of damage to the oven and other equipment in the transformer plant, Butler said.

The building itself sustained minimal damage, she said.
