With the home furnishings industry fully ablaze, a trade group has dubbed Gibson’s in Fountain Valley the best home accents retailer in the Western United States.

“We call it the Academy Awards of the home furnishings industry,” said Sharon Davis, executive director of the Accessories Resource Team, the North Carolina-based association that doles out its ART Awards annually.

Bob and Ann Gibson opened the business--then named Pottery Plus--about 11 years ago elsewhere in Fountain Valley. Starting with pottery, they quickly added fountains and silk flowers and other items. In 1991, they moved to their current home on Euclid Street. Now sprawled over 30,000 square feet, Gibson’s sells indoor and outdoor accessories.

The couple were recognized by the industry partly because they have a knack for displaying their merchandise in eye-catching settings, Davis said.

“Some stores can put a $2 item next to a $2,000 item and it looks fabulous,” Davis said. “It’s all in the merchandising. And Gibson’s does a really good job of that.”

It’s the second year in a row that Gibson’s has taken the regional prize in the home accents category.
