Laguna Woods

Is Leisure World’s motto solidarity or remoteness from the rest of us?

I live in a senior complex across the road from them and discovered all they wanted was our vote and our number in their population. Nothing in return.

Personally, I don’t believe in “senior ghettos.” I like the mix of young and old, the feeling of living in the real world.

Are we supposed to turn our backs on this mess, some of it due to our actions, that we helped create for the generations behind us? I am appalled at their attitude of isolationism. I question their feelings for anyone but themselves.

If ever a lead needed to be buried it’s “Call it Laguna confusion” (March 8).

You write of “a few old sycamores” out at Leisure World. When I walk through Leisure World’s Audubon Park, I often think, “I wish Laguna Beach was still like this.”

If you have ever been to a Laguna Beach City Council meeting, where elitism and masochism collide, you know what I mean. Neighbors argue for hours over a tree blocking their view.

When picking the name “Laguna Woods,” perhaps the folks out at Leisure World just might have been thinking of the Native American tribe that hunted in their neck of the woods and not some coffee or dress shop on “Forest” Avenue.
