Enthusiastic Players Makes Cup Worthwhile
Watching Davis Cup telecasts last weekend was a pure delight. It was also a step back into the past. Seeing a group of young men, who consider it an honor to be chosen for the team, play their hearts out was a wonderful sight. Far more so than watching any pro tournament where the players concentrate solely on money and seedings. We would rather have the Todd Martins and Jim Couriers, who want to be there win, lose or draw, than any Changs, Samprases or Agassis, who can’t seem to find time to make the effort or dredge up the interest. After all, it is only their country.
