Eric Lindros was breathing easier after surgery Friday to remove a blood clot from his chest cavity.

The Philadelphia Flyer star center underwent the 90-minute procedure after a setback in his recovery from a collapsed lung. Doctors at the University of Pennsylvania called the procedure a success and said Lindros should make a full recovery.

“He’s in some pain right now but he’s feeling pretty good,” said Dr. Larry Kaiser, a chest surgeon who performed the operation. “He’s glad it’s over and looks forward to being out of here in a few days.”

A whirlwind day that began with Lindros being released from a hospital in Nashville, Tenn., turned somber when Kaiser said Thursday night that the prolific scorer and team captain had run a fever in excess of 102 degrees.

Kaiser removed a hardened blood clot that was pressing against the lower lobe of Lindros’ right lung, keeping it from fully expanding. The fluid in the lung was not infected.

The procedure, called video thoroscopy, was minor, and Lindros is expected to be hospitalized four to five days.
