Man Freed After Serving 26 Years
From Times Wire Reports
An inmate whose 1973 murder conviction was recently overturned because police wrongly suppressed evidence walked out of the Monroe County Jail in Rochester, N.Y., after serving almost 26 years behind bars. Prosecutors are still deciding whether to retry him. John Duval maintained he signed a confession only after being severely beaten by police, who had no physical evidence linking him to the killing of businessman Timothy Haworth. Duval, 47, was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison.
