Vanity Fair, Ermenegildo Zegna and Cedars-Sinai Medical Center’s COACH for Kids and Their Families hosted an unofficial Oscar ballot party March 17 and raised $200,000 for COACH (Community Outreach Assistance for Children’s Health). COACH is a mobile medical unit staffed by Cedars-Sinai Medical Center professionals which provides medical and preventive services to economically disadvantaged children and adults in schools, homeless shelters and other centers in Los Angeles County. Each of the more than 300 guests who attended the event at the Ermenegildo Zegna store in Beverly Hills was given a ballot, which they could submit for a $100 donation. The winner received a $5,000 Zegna shopping spree. Vanity Fair also presented a $10,000 donation to COACH. Guests included Bridget Fonda, Jennifer Flavin, Cheryl Tiegs, LeAnn Rimes, Judd Nelson, Kelly Lynch, Ron Silver and Rosanna Arquette.

* Bob Morgan, assistant executive director of Hollygrove Home for Children, and his wife, Glenda, raised more than $30,000 in the March 14 Los Angeles Marathon. For the last 10 years, Morgan, 62, and his wife have run and biked in the marathon to raise money for the Los Angeles children’s agency. Morgan, who has worked at Hollygrove for 41 years, suffered from polio as a child. As one of the official charities of the L.A. Marathon, more than 200 children of Hollygrove Home and volunteers also hosted a marathon block party on Vine Street, which borders the Hollygrove campus at Mile 17 of the marathon course. They greeted runners with balloons, pompoms and cups of water. More than 34 athletes ran, walked and cycled for Hollygrove, which provides therapeutic, residential and foster care for abused/neglected children. Another group that helps children, Child SHARE, a Glendale agency that finds adoptive and foster homes and also an official marathon charity, raised $68,000 with 100 people running, biking and walking. Among the participants was a bike team of children adopted by Child SHARE families. Child SHARE’s location near Mile 13 was decorated with red and white balloons in support of its theme “hearts and homes for children.” In-N-Out Burger donated lunches and Ralphs donated breakfast for the 200 families and volunteers who cheered on runners.

* About 150 celebrities and others raised more than $500,000 at the Michael Douglas & Friends Celebrity Golf event and dinner for the Motion Picture & Television Fund. Golfers at the March 19 and 20 tournament held at Ocean Trails Golf Course in Rancho Palos Verdes included Michael Douglas, Kevin Costner, Andy Garcia, Will Smith, Jack Nicholson, Cuba Gooding Jr., Joe Pesci, Robert Loggia, Chris O’Donnell and James Garner. The dinner, held March 19 at the Grill at Universal Studios, was attended by Douglas, Loggia, Gooding, Garner, Anne and Kirk Douglas, Robert Townsend, Lew Wasserman, Jeffrey Katzenberg and Ron Meyer. Sponsors included Mazda, Universal Studios, Dr. Pepper and Ocean Trails. The Motion Picture & Television Fund provides social services to its members.
