Georgia, UCLA Among Super Six

Defending champion Georgia stayed on course for its fifth national title Thursday by winning the night session in the NCAA women’s gymnastics championships at Salt Lake City.

Georgia will be joined in today’s Super Six competition by UCLA, Alabama, Arizona State, Michigan and Nebraska.

Georgia’s team score of 197.025 was the day’s best.

Utah’s Theresa Kulikowski became the first freshman to win the individual all-around title since Kentucky’s Jenny Hansen in 1993. Kulikowski posted an overall score of 39.675, edging Georgia senior Karin Lichey (39.575).

UCLA’s Heidi Moneymaker was the highest-scoring all-arounder in the afternoon session and finished third in the overall standings.

At Lincoln, Neb., Nebraska’s Jason Hardabura used a career-best score on floor exercise to win the all-around title in the NCAA men’s gymnastics championships.
