The Thrill of the Chase

Share

Howard Rosenberg argues the validity of showing a police chase during rush hour, as opposed to an update on the Kosovo crisis (“Split Screen: Weighty Concerns vs. the Lightweight,” March 31).

I’d like to ask him if a citizen living in the Valley happened to get hit or killed by this crazed driver, is that broadcast still meaningless? The events occurring in Kosovo are important and life-shaping, but police pursuits are much more immediate.

Regardless of what Rosenberg wants to believe, there is a morbid fascination with unstable segments of our society on all levels, whether they are escaping police pursuit in a sport utility vehicle or they happen to be writing about television on the front page of Calendar.
