Fishing Monument to Be Unveiled in San Pedro

A 10-foot bronze statue dedicated to San Pedro’s fishing community will be unveiled Sunday.

The statue stands atop a monument decorated with plaques and handcrafted murals commemorating the city’s fishing community, said Barry Glickman, spokesman for Councilman Rudy Svorinich Jr.

Tiles painted by local artist Petra Lefeber depicting former fishing vessels also will be part of the memorial.

The public is invited to the unveiling in John S. Gibson Park. The ceremony will begin at 3 p.m. at the Gateway to the Ports O’Call at the corner of 5th Street and Harbor Boulevard.
