* Update--The hiring of Sigi Schmid has been a hurry up-and-wait affair. The Galaxy contacted the former UCLA coach Monday and he called upon friends such as U.S. national team Coach Bruce Arena and New York/New Jersey MetroStar Coach Bora Milutinovic. “Everybody said this is the right move at the right time,” Schmid said. Schmid and the Galaxy quickly came to terms by Wednesday evening but now Schmid is approaching his new job in characteristically cautious fashion, observing practices, allowing assistant coach Ralph Perez to run the team for tonight’s game. San Jose, meanwhile, is three games over .500 for the first time in club history. The Clash has lost forward Eric Wynalda until September and remains uncertain if goalkeeper David Kramer, nursing an injured left shoulder, will play tonight. If not, rookie Joe Cannon will get his second Major League Soccer start. In his debut against D.C. United last week, Cannon made crucial saves against Jeff Agoos and Roy Lassiter.
