West Valley Cleanup Projects Awarded Grants
More than a dozen West Valley neighborhood beautification projects have been awarded $20,000 in grants by Los Angeles City Councilwoman Laura Chick.
Chick distributed the money under her NeighborGood Program, which provides matching funds for neighborhood improvement projects throughout her district.
Thirteen benefactors received grants from $250 to $2,500 to clean up schools, family centers and alleys.
“We’re trying to get neighbors to work on projects that wouldn’t otherwise be done,” said Jackie Keene, assistant director for Chick’s district office.
Among the recipients was Grover Cleveland High School in Reseda, which received $1,950 in matching funds to build an Outdoor Environmental Science Center.
Canoga Park Community School-Based Health Clinic got $2,500 to refurbish its facility, and Melvin Avenue Family Center in Reseda received $2,500 to beautify its landscaping.
“We’ve provided the dollars for them to get their community projects going,” Keene said. “We’re hoping other people will look at these projects and will want to get involved in their communities too.”
