Failed Transformer Cuts Power in Irvine

Share

About 3,100 homes and businesses in Irvine lost their power Sunday night after a transformer failed, a Southern California Edison spokesman said.

The outage occurred about 7:20 p.m., but only 150 customers were still without power two hours later, Edison spokesman Steve Hanson said.

“The transformer just failed,” Hanson said. “Sometimes they do that.”

The area affected was bordered by the San Diego Freeway to the north, Campus Drive to the south, Culver Drive to the west and Ridgeline Drive to the east. The company is investigating the cause.
