Plans to Replace Cramped Library Move Forward
The city is considering building a library to replace the aging facility that plays host to hundreds of children from nearby schools each day.
The City Council recently decided to move forward with plans for a larger facility to replace the library built in 1951. The decision to include a feasibility study in the city budget was based on a recommendation from a task force that included council members.
The San Marino Library houses more than 100,000 books in a space designed for 60,000 books. A new library capable of housing about 150,000 would be part of a larger community center. The facility would be built on the current library site at Huntington Drive and West Avenue.
