With demand for new homes far outweighing supply, the county’s older urban areas are prime targets for redevelopment. In Stanton, a builder is putting up the city’s first new single-family housing development in three decades.

Western Pacific Housing Corp. is building 84 units on an abandoned hospital site adjacent to City Hall. On Katella Avenue just west of Beach Boulevard, the homes contain two to four bedrooms and cost $180,000 to $210,000.

Even though model units are still being finished, 45 of the homes have already sold, said Craig Manchester, the company’s president. The development is expected to be completed by early next year, but the first move-ins are scheduled this July.
