TV Angel Finds a Perch in the Hills
Patricia Manterola, the singer-actress from Mexico who made her debut in America this year on Telemundo’s new series “Angeles,” and her husband, singer-actor Javier Ortiz, have become first-time home buyers with their purchase of a $730,000 Hollywood Hills home.
Manterola, who received Mexico’s best actress of the year award in 1996, co-stars in the crime series, which is a takeoff of “Charlie’s Angels” (1976-81). “Angeles,” part of a multimedia deal to introduce Manterola to American audiences in English- and Spanish-speaking roles, airs twice weekly, once with English subtitles.
Manterola, 26, is a top singer in Latin America. She and her husband met while both were in the teen rock group Garibaldi.
The couple’s home is Mediterranean, has three bedrooms in about 2,500 square feet, was built in 1967 and refurbished. The house has canyon and city views.
Monique Simms, Elke Sehr-Peluse and Barbara O’Gorman, all with Century 21 Better Homes in Santa Monica, represented the couple in buying their home, and Saundra Renard with the Desert Connection Realtors, West Hollywood, had the listing.

Lane Smith, who played Daily Planet editor Perry White in “Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman” (1993-97), has listed his three-bedroom Studio City home at about $500,000.
Smith, 60ish, just finished shooting the George C. Scott-Jack Lemmon Showtime movie “Inherit the Wind,” to air May 29. In 1998, he was in the miniseries “From the Earth to the Moon” and several movies, including “Getting Personal.”
He decided to sell his home of 13 years because he and his fiancee, Debbie Benedict, plan to wed this summer, and each has an adolescent son. “We have a wonderful view but need more space,” he said. Smith recently added a master suite and a glass- and steel-enclosed deck to the hillside house, built in the ‘50s.
The 3,000-square-foot home is listed with Cissy Wellman, Coldwell Banker-Jon Douglas Co., Brentwood and Studio City.

Timothy Bottoms, who narrated the TV special “John Glenn, American Hero” (1998) and played Fouquet in the 1998 comedy “The Three Musketeers Meet the Man in the Iron Mask,” plans to sell his 160-acre Hildalgo South Fork Ranch, near Big Sur, for $5 million.
Bottoms, in his mid-40s, gained fame as Sonny in Peter Bogdanovich’s “The Last Picture Show” (1971).
He and his family have owned the ranch for 25 years. They have used the ranch as a wildlife sanctuary. One- to 2-pound trout are common in the river there, Bottoms said.
