Choir Dedicates Concert to Colorado Families

Though they come from different backgrounds, most of the youths of the Watts Inner City Mass Choir have known friends or relatives who were struck down by gunfire. That is why the choir decided to dedicate a Saturday gospel concert to the families of Littleton, Colo.

“Young people are shot to death almost every day in South-Central, except it doesn’t happen in a school environment,” said Jeffrey Coprich, director of the Watts Choir. “It doesn’t matter what color you are, you still feel the pain.”

Half of the funds raised at the concert will buy books for the Essence K. Coprich Library at the 116th Elementary school. The other half will fund programs for the Inner City Mass Music Ministry, which works with local teens.

A $5 donation is asked for the show, which will include Grammy award-winning performer Deniece Williams. It begins at 6 p.m. at the Maranatha Community Church, 3800 W. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. Information: (323) 779-8692.
