Cam Anderson of Santa Cruz made the best of blown-out conditions to record the top overall score of the day, 18.43, on the third day of men’s surfing in the Body Glove Surfbout XII at Lower Trestles in San Clemente.
Peter Mel, also of Santa Cruz, edged Laguna Niguel’s Kasey Curtis for the top individual wave score (7.83). Troy Eckert of Newport Beach scored the third best wave (7.33) and advanced to the men’s main round. Longboarder Colin McPhillips of San Clemente also advanced. Competition continues today.
