Racism Lurks but Only in a Small Minority

Share

Sandy Banks apparently has just realized that the face of hate is undistinguishable from normal human expression (“When Racism Lurks Beneath a Mask of Normalcy,” July 18). In my years of practicing law and working in the civil rights community I have looked in the faces of some of the vilest, most vicious haters in our society. The only common denominator is that they look just like everyone else.

We shouldn’t become paranoid about the people around us, but, sadly, we should recognize that we have met the enemy and the enemy indeed is us. Just be glad it’s only a very small minority of us.
