Cox’s Letter
Rep. Christopher Cox’s July 27 letter accused Tom Plate of “taking the Communist Party line.” The use of that phrase reveals Cox for what he is, a Red-baiting, neo-McCarthyite. There is no “party line,” Rep. Cox. If there is, prove it. This country, to its shame, has been down this road before.
Accusing those who disagree with you of communism makes rational discussion impossible and destroys innocent lives. Rational discussion isn’t what those in the right wing want; they want an issue and they are willing to use smear tactics to get that issue, just like the 1950s. Will we or they ever learn?
