The Planning Commission voted Tuesday to create nine specific development standards that operators of large family day-care centers will have to meet to start their businesses. The old ordinance, Planning Division Manager Vern Jones said, gave a “false sense to the community” that the city has the power to decide arbitrarily which large family day-care centers may operate. It also brings the city’s ordinance in better compliance with the state’s. After the nine standards are determined, they will be presented to City Council for approval.
