The City Council saw a presentation by Fire Chief Chip Prather at its study session Monday. Prather explained the Orange County Fire Authority’s new 10-year contract, which includes a 3.5% increase in fees for the first five years and 4% for the subsequent five.

The city decided last week to study service alternatives in collaboration with Stanton, Buena Park and Garden Grove. “We’re not unhappy with the Fire Authority,” said city spokesperson Jennifer Gaetano, “but if there’s a viable opportunity to save the city money, we need to look at it.”

The city spends $5.8 million annually on fire services, and has contracted with the authority since 1995. The current contract expires June 30, 2000.
