VILLA PARK
The classroom of the future will debut at Villa Park High School this fall, when 11th-grade U.S. history and English students join together for a pilot program called Anytime, Anywhere Learning. Classroom lectures and presentations will be conducted electronically--and will be available any time Principal Fran Roney said. Homework will be assigned and submitted via “[This will be] more engaging for the students because of the media world they live in,” Roney said.
Roney said similar electronic classrooms elsewhere in the country have increased student motivation, learning and standardized test scores while decreasing behavioral and attendance problems. Roney said the school hopes to expand the program to other grades in the future.
Students must supply their own laptops. Informational meetings for parents are scheduled at the high school’s library, Aug. 25 at 6:30 p.m. and at CompUSA in Anaheim, 550 N. Euclid Ave., Aug. 29 from 6 to 9 p.m. Information: (714) 532-8020.
