Space Illness No Big Deal, Doctor Says
Stale air inside NASA’s new space station may have sickened astronauts on the last supply run, but the doctor on board said at Cape Canaveral, Fla., that the headaches, nausea and dry, itchy eyes were “no big deal.” Dr. Daniel Barry says the symptoms were so fleeting, and so benign, that neither he nor his six crew mates reported their illnesses until a couple of weeks after they returned to Earth--to the dismay of NASA, which now may never be able to diagnose the problem. The space agency is changing guidelines for future crews.
