College Gift Funds Volunteer Program

A benefactor has given Boston College $5 million for student spiritual retreats and volunteer programs, a gift school officials in Newton, Mass., say is believed to be the largest that requires no bricks and mortar and no name etched above a building doorway. John McNeice Jr. is a 1954 graduate of the Jesuit university who made his fortune by building an investment firm. The John and Margarete McNeice Student Formation Fund will help pay for the university’s extensive volunteer and student retreat programs.
