Six youths have been arrested on charges of stealing and then stockpiling an arsenal of weapons and ammunition, including armor-piercing bullets, firearms and bayonets, authorities said Tuesday.

The boys, ages 14 to 18, are suspected of taking 140 rounds of armor-piercing ammunition, 3,500 rounds of Russian and Romanian-made ammunition, three firearms and two bayonets from one house, and six guns from another.

“It’s very scary that 16-year-olds would be in possession of one round, much less 4,000 rounds,” Escambia County sheriff’s investigator Steve Hardy said Tuesday.

The youths were arrested after investigators found the weaponry buried in the woods and hidden on vacant lots. The six were being held without bond.

The teens told investigators they were part of the Folk Nation gang and were going to use the weapons for gang-related activity.

Investigators learned about the stockpiled weapons from one of the teens after he was picked up on a warrant for failing to appear in court in another case.
