* Oakwood Homes Corp., the nation’s largest manufactured-home company, said it ended plans to sell or merge the company because of unfavorable industry conditions. The company also said Chief Executive Nicholas St. George decided to retire Sept. 30 and will be succeeded by Chief Operating Officer William Edwards. Oakwood said it has cut 1,000 of about 12,000 jobs because of slower demand as industry inventories have hit historically high levels.
