An abandoned oil field may be developed into a commercial and residential complex if city officials can get the developers to clean up the site.
The Planning Commission unanimously voted Tuesday to recommend that the City Council approve a project to build 183 houses and a shopping center on the property, with the condition that the area is cleaned up before construction begins.
The 51-acre development at Rose Drive and Alta Vista Street includes nine acres reserved for future commercial use. But there are no immediate plans for a shopping center yet, developers said.
