A U.S. Postal Service employee suffered minor injuries Thursday in Casitas Springs when his mail truck was struck by a beer truck and destroyed.

The driver of the beer truck, which witnesses said was weaving in the road, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of narcotics, the California Highway Patrol said.

The mail truck was hit as the unidentified driver stepped out to make a delivery in the 8600 block of Ventura Avenue, said CHP Officer R.J. Regan. The mail truck was pushed into fencing along the street.

The mailman complained of back pain and sought medical attention, Regan said. Mail covered the ground after the accident and 15 feet of fence was damaged.

The mail truck was “totaled” and towed away, Regan said.

“It was shredded,” he said. “It opened like a tin can.”

Mack Magdaleno, 28, of Port Hueneme, the driver of an Allied Distributing beer truck, was arrested after the accident.
