Haste Makes Waste in Barham Plan

Share

* I am grieved to learn of the proposed sale of Barham Ranch and the circumstances surrounding the situation (Aug. 9).

To turn over such a pristine area of Orange County wilderness, integrally located at the junction of three parks, to a developer, which appears to be the ultimate aim of the Serrano Water District, seems to be a gross violation of the public trust.

There is the appearance of undue haste in the progress of this deal. I find it remarkably suspect that the attorneys representing Serrano Water District, which is suing the Orange Unified School District to force a sale of the property, are the same ones who represent SunCal Cos., the developer who wants to acquire it.

I fear that we are in danger of letting the private interests of a select few slip past an unaware majority.

* As a 36-year resident of Orange County, I am very concerned about the massive development taking place here.

The area of Barham Ranch is one of the few local natural places that we can enjoy. Orange County needs to preserve what open space is left.
