Mayor Tom Daly said he is not disturbed by reports that there is a possibility of a maximum-security jail being built near Anaheim’s sphere of influence. “It’s important to look at the facts,” Daly said. “It’s my understanding that the county’s current plans are to expand Musick.” The jail was originally slated to be built in Irvine, with the expansion of the James A. Musick Branch Jail, but the Sheriff’s Department is now looking at several unincorporated sites next to the Eastern toll road and north of Irvine since the cities of Lake Forest and Irvine sued the county.

Daly said he understood reactions to the news by Orange Mayor Joanne Coontz. “I agree with her that [Orange] is the wrong site for a jail. I’ve spoken with her and encouraged her to make her feelings known.”
