Three sites in Orange’s sphere of influence are being considered for a maximum-security jail, according to Mayor Joanne Coontz, who held a public meeting to discuss the issue Thursday. One is west of the Eastern toll road; two are east. The property is about two miles from where an expansion of Orange, including 11,000 new homes, has been planned for 10 years.

“We have done our part,” said an angry Coontz in reference to being home to Theo Lacy, which was to be the last jail built in Orange. Assistant Sheriff George Jaramillo reminded participants that potential sites at this point are “nothing more than a conversation.”
