HUNTINGTON BEACH
Firefighters have reached a tentative labor agreement with the city for the first time since 1993. The agreement, which union members supported in a vote July 28, still must be approved by the City Council. It offers a compensation increase of roughly 9.6% over three years, said William Osness, the city’s personnel director.
Compensation includes benefits, he said. The firefighters wanted a higher salary but settled for more benefits, said David McBride, president of the Huntington Beach Firefighters Assn.
“We will still remain one of lowest-paid fire departments in Orange County,” he said.
The council is expected to vote on the agreement Sept. 7, Osness said.
