Trees and scattered oil fields dot more than 4,000 acres of rolling hillsides and canyons in an unincorporated part of the county that lies within Brea’s sphere of influence. For some residents, the open space, north of the city limits, is like a hidden treasure. But that may soon come to an end. On Tuesday, the fate of the acreage will be decided when city officials decide what to develop on the land.
Preserving open space was the first priority identified by about 200 residents who filled out a survey form at a July 15 meeting, according to city documents.
The City Council has approved a 639-housing development on 300 acres. Developers have also recently proposed building 183 houses near Brea Olinda High School.
The council meeting will begin at 7 p.m. on the plaza level of the Civic & Cultural Center, 1 Civic Center Circle.
