A top foe in the El Toro airport debate said a meeting held in Newport Beach last week was a blatant attempt to mislead residents and scare them into supporting a commercial airport at the former Marine Corps base.

“I was very disturbed to see how people were being scared with these horror tales of how John Wayne [Airport] will double and triple if there isn’t an airport at El Toro,” said anti-El Toro airport activist Leonard Kranser.

Last Thursday, a meeting at the Newport Beach Central Library attracted more than 300 people who listened as the mayor and other airport proponents touted an airport at El Toro as the best viable option for Orange County.
