Antonovich Appoints 2 From Valley to Committees

Los Angeles County Supervisor Mike Antonovich announced Tuesday that he has appointed a Valley businessman to the Sunshine Canyon Landfill’s advisory committee and reappointed a retired San Fernando Valley psychologist to the county’s Commission on Aging.

David Honda, a Northridge contractor specializing in high-rise construction, will join the Sunshine Canyon Landfill Community Advisory Committee, which serves as a liaison for the county’s Regional Planning Commission, the operators of the landfill, and the public.

The former chairman of the Valley Economic Development Center, Honda resigned earlier this month after being asked to leave by board members who said he was interfering with the day-to-day workings of the small business organization.

Honda, part of a recent wholesale exodus of board members from the Valley Economic Development Center during a bitter leadership dispute, said he left because he grew tired of turmoil in the organization.

F. Monroe Ledyard, 89, a former clinical psychologist for the Veterans Administration and an eight-year member of the Commission on Aging, will continue on the panel for another two-year term.

The 45-member commission, which is broken down into numerous subcommittees, advises the Board of Supervisors and county departments on providing services to the area’s older population. It also promotes educational programs to help seniors become more self-sufficient.

Ledyard, who lives in Sylmar, said he looks forward to embarking on additional educational work as a member of the county commission, particularly through the use of television programming.

“I’ve been working in the field of aging ever since I retired,” Ledyard said. “I enjoy serving as an advisor on the problems of the aging, but I would like to see us get more active on our own projects.”
