United Names New Regional Managing Director

United Airlines has appointed Jill Sheffield managing director of its Southern California region. In her new position, Sheffield will be responsible for all of United’s profitability, marketing, sales, reservations and ticket offices in the Los Angeles metropolitan area. She will also oversee airport operations at United’s hub at Los Angeles International Airport and at Burbank, John Wayne International and Ontario International airports.

United, the nation’s largest carrier, has announced 30 new daily flights from LAX that will be phased in starting Sept. 7. The airline’s expansion at LAX includes renovation of its terminals.

* James Flynn, a former managing director of the Los Angeles office of AEW Capital Management, has been named president of Carson Cos., an industrial real estate development and management firm based in Rancho Dominguez. Flynn replaces C. Bradley Olson, who left the company to become head of the real estate program at Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y.

* El Segundo-based Merisel Inc., a computer distributor, has named former Ingram Micro Inc. executive C. Michael Reynolds vice president of systems. He will report to Kristin Rogers, senior vice president and general manager of U.S. distribution, and will be charged with implementing short- and long-term strategies. Reynolds previously served as the director of global assembly programs for Santa Ana-based Ingram Micro, another computer distributor.

* Walt Disney Co., has promoted John Ball and Salil Mehta to senior vice presidents of strategic planning and development. Ball will be responsible for leading Disney’s corporate development and acquisitions activities, and Mehta will be responsible for developing new online businesses that leverage Disney’s film, television and music assets.
