Moorpark Man Charged With Murder

A 30-year-old Moorpark man was charged with murder Wednesday in the shooting death of his brother-in-law, court records show.

Paul Myers was in court Wednesday afternoon for arraignment, but it was postponed to Sept. 1 at the request of Deputy Public Defender Doug Daily, according to records.

Myers is accused of gunning down Jason Weaver, 26, last week during a dispute over video games, authorities said. Weaver was shot six times with a .38-caliber revolver outside Myers’ home in Moorpark.

Authorities said Myers, the son of Los Angeles Police Sgt. James N. Myers, used his father’s department-issued gun in the shooting.

Bail on the murder charge is set at $500,000, but Myers will remain in custody because he is also being held on a no-bail charge of deserting the Army, authorities said.
