The City Council on Monday denied a tattoo and body-piercing business’ request for a conditional use permit because of its proposed location across the street from an elementary school.
Despite a presentation from the owners that the City Council called well-prepared, the council unanimously voted to object to Trigger Happy Tattoo moving into the empty storefront at 553 W. Whittier Blvd.
The 5-0 vote was in no way a moral judgment on tattoos, council members said, but based on the concerns of parents. It is against the law for minors to get tattoos or piercings without parental supervision but many teens seem to get tattoos without the knowledge of their parents, council members said.
