It Could Be So Different With Disney and Angels

Share

You think Disney would still be considering selling the Angels had they signed Mark McGwire last year when McGwire said he really wanted to play in L.A. near his son?

If Disney does sell, maybe Fox will copy and outrageously sell the Dodgers to a quiet, respectable baseball family that values stability and tradition.

Does anyone really think that Disney would be talking about selling the Angels if they were winning? Of course not. The fact is, even if the Angels were winning, Disney would still be losing money this season, but you can bet that Michael Eisner would be making enough high-profile appearances to give Ted Turner and George Steinbrenner some competition.

I was disappointed to read the opinions of three ungrateful Angel fans in the Aug. 14 Viewpoint. They relish the idea of Disney getting out of the sports business but show no appreciation for what Disney has done for sports in Orange County.

The Pond and Edison Field are true showcases in Anaheim and because of the Mighty Ducks I am an avid hockey fan. No one person is perfect, nor is a corporation, but I want to say “Thank you, Disney” for the fun you have given me. Please don’t sell. Hang in there.
